Mariam Ahmed

B.A., ADMH PGCert, CCPA Candidate

Mariam Ahmed is a counsellor who provides online and in-person counselling services in the GTA. She graduated from the University of Toronto in 2018 with her Bachelor of Arts degree, specializing in History of Religions and Psychology. She recently received her Ontario Graduate certificate from Humber College in Addictions & Mental Health. She is currently a professional member in good standing with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association. Mariam is also a registered member of Mental Health First Aid. 

 

Mariam began working in the field as a Mental Health Worker in 2013. Her interest in psychology developed after taking an introductory course in Grade.11 when she attended Erindale Secondary School. Mariam was fascinated with how the mind works and why people behave the way that they do. She has worked independently with clients with a variety of disorders, such as Schizophrenia, Mood disorders, Anger management, and Substance dependency. Moreover, Mariam has been an active volunteer with the Distress Centres of Greater Toronto, where she provides ongoing telephone support for isolated seniors. She provides emotional support, positive coping skills, companionship and a sense of community for senior clients. 

 

Along with her education and work experience Mariam works at a 24/7 Emergency Women’s Shelter in Toronto as a shelter counsellor. Mariam has facilitated a three-session group workshop called “Mindfulness Meditation” that provides therapeutic experience for homeless women in the community. At the shelter, she provides informal counselling, emotional support, advocates & accompanied clients to appointments. 

 

Mariam currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, growing plants and taking care of her garden and is a self- taught photographer.
